Why I’m Running

Public schools are at the heart of our communities. As a parent of two sons; one just gradated from Oak Bay High and the other is in grade 10, I know how important safe, supportive and well-run schools are for students, staff and families.

I am running for school trustee because I believe every student should have access to a quality public education and the support they need to learn and thrive. I bring a strong commitment to public education along with thoughtful governance and decision making that considers the voices of students, families, staff and the broader community.

About Me

I am a solo parent of two teenage children and share my home with a dog and two cats. Additionally, my mother lives nearby, in her own home. This enables us to spend time together and support one another. I believe in creating community and helping each other.

I hold an undergraduate degree from the University of Victoria and a Master’s degree in Policy and Human Services.

For the past ten years, I have worked full time as a Labour Relations Representative. My work involves listening carefully, navigating complex issues and finding practical solutions when people come to the table with very different perspectives.

Before moving into labour relations, I spent 15 years working with non-profit organizations serving children, youth and families in Vancouver and Victoria. In those roles, I led work related to quality improvement and accreditation and developed a strong understanding of the systems and supports that help young people thrive. Supporting young people as they learn, grow and successfully transition into adulthood remains deeply important to me.

I have volunteered on a number of boards and committees. Those experiences have reinforced my belief that good decisions start with understanding the issue, listening to the people most affected and being willing to do the work needed to find practical solutions.

I am also a keen gardener with a particular interest in creating urban spaces that support plants, pollinators and other life. My garden was recently featured in the Victoria Hospice Teeny Tiny Garden Tour, and for the past few years I have volunteered as a Get Growing Coordinator.

My Priorities

As a school trustee, I will focus on:

  • Supporting safe, welcoming and inclusive schools where all students can learn and thrive

  • Promoting transparent, accountable and collaborative decision making

  • Listening to students, families, staff and the community

  • Working constructively to find practical solutions to the challenges facing public education

  • Approaching the role with preparation, persistence and a strong commitment to students

Two photos. The first features a woman and a teenager standing with a person dressed in a large tree mascot costume, outdoors with trees and a view of water in the background. The second shows a woman and a teenage boy in graduation gowns and caps, smiling, under a tree with sunlight filtering through the leaves.
